Collect Data
Meter
the fundamental unit of length in the metric system, equal to 100 centimeters or approximately 39.37 inches.
Liter
a metric unit of capacity, formerly defined as the volume of 1 kilogram of water under standard conditions, now equal to 1,000 cubic centimeters (about 1.75 pints).
Gram
a metric unit of mass equal to one thousandth of a kilogram.
Volume
the amount of space that a substance or object occupies, or that is enclosed within a container, especially when great.
Mass
is both a property of a physical body and a measure of its resistance to acceleration (a change in its state of motion) when a net force is applied. It also determines the strength of its mutual gravitational attraction to other bodies. The basic SI unit of mass is the kilogram (kg).
Density - comparison of the mass to the volume of an object
often has units of grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm3). Remember, grams
Area
Area is the quantity that expresses the extent of a two-dimensional figure or shape, or planar lamina, in the plane. Surface area is its analog on the two-dimensional surface of a three-dimensional object
Celsius
The Celsius scale, previously known as the centigrade scale, is a temperature scale used by the International System of Units. As an SI derived unit, it is used by all countries except the United States and Liberia. It is named after the Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius, who developed a similar temperature scale
Experimental group - the group that DOES receive the treatment in an experiment
An experimental group (sometimes called a treatment group) is a group that receives a treatment in an experiment. The “group” is made up of test subjects (people, animals, plants, cells etc.) and the “treatment” is the variable you are studying.Oct 1, 2015
Control group - the group that does NOT receive the treatment in an experiment
experiments in which subjects are assigned randomly to an experimental group that receives a treatment or other manipulation of the independent variable and a comparison group that does not receive the treatment or receives some other manipulation in a posttest.
Variable
not consistent or having a fixed pattern; liable to change.
Controlled experiment
A scientific control is an experiment or observation designed to minimize the effects of variables other than the independent variable. This increases the reliability of the results, often through a comparison between control measurements and the other measurements.
Hypothesis
a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.
Scientific methods
a method of procedure that has characterized natural science since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses.
