Scientific Method Definitions Flashcards
(18 cards)
Very close to the actual value
Accurate
Looking at your data to see what it tells you about your hypothesis.
Analyze
A feature or quality belonging typically to a person, place, or thing and serving to identify it.
Characteristic
To sort into groups based on similarities
Classify
A summary of findings from an investigation to included whether or not the hypothesis is correct. Summary may include a plan for another investigation of the hypothesis was incorrect.
Conclusion
The group in an experiment that doesn’t get the change (variable). It is used for comparison.
Control group
The information you collect during an experiment like measurements or observations.
Data
A test you do to see if your hypothesis is correct. It involves following steps and using materials.
Experiment
A prediction that can be tested.
Hypothesis
A conclusion based on evidence, observations, or known facts.
Inference
A procedure carried out to carefully observe, study or test somthing in order learn more about it
Investigation
Information collected by using the five senses
Observation
A guess about what you think might happen
Predict
The application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes or applications
Technology
Something that can be tested or proven through experimentation or observation.
Testable
Scientists use repeated trials to make sure the results are reliable and consistent.
Trials
How accurately a method measures what it is intended to measure.
Valid
The component in an investigation / experiment that changes (example: the amount of food coloring that was added to the test tubes.)
