Ptolemy
Greek astronomer (earth was fixed spot/everything orbited around it)
Leonardo da Vinci
Renaissance artist
Copernicus
Heliocentric (sun was the center of the universe)
Newton
Set the foundation for calculus and gravity
Galileo
Invented the telescope
Kepler
Came up with laws of planetary motion
Brahe
inventor/astronomer/ mathematician
Telescope
detailed observation of the sky
Heliocentric
Sun is at the center of the universe
Elliptical
Oval-shaped orbit
Laws of Planetary Motion
- Each planet orbits the sun in an ellipse
- Planets move with irregular pace
- The closer a planet is to the Sun, the shorter it takes to orbit the Sun
Gravity
A force which a large object of matter pulls objects towards its center
Calculus
the study of rate of change
Laws of Objects in Motion
- An object will stay the same unless acted upon by a different force
- Force = Mass x Acceleration
- When you push an object into another object, it exerts equal and opposite force on the first object
