Scientists Of Dna Flashcards

1
Q

What experiment did Fredrick miescher do?

A

He studied nuclei by collecting puss cells from discharged bandaids. He concluded that the nucleon is the storage for phosphorus.

Q

What experiment did Frederick Griffith do?

A

He used bacteria, streptococcus pneumonia. There are two types that are strain, which has no disease and the S strain which does have a disease. He injected mice with these different strains to see the results. He found that the R strain would allow the mice to live the strain they would die dead as strain they would live and strain with dead strain they would die. He found that the strain had gained the pathogenic gene from the dead strain, and change into the strain .

Q

What experiment did Oswald Avery do?

A

He isolated, the S strain, and isolated the nucleic acids RNA and DNA since those were used for hereditary. He used enzymes that degraded the component and use the mixture to transform the strain. Proteins destroyed and transformed nucleus, destroyed RNA and transformed deoxy ribbon nucleus destroyed DNA and didn’t transform. Since the other ones transformed it rules out the material . DNA was inactive and therefore had genetic material

Q

What experiment did Alfred Hershey and Martha chase do?

A

A virus is essentially DNA with a protein Coat. They created radioactive markers which would be found in the virus. If DNA is genetics, we will find it in the bacteria. Sulphur was found well. Radioactivity was found in pellet using phosphorus. Found DNA. DNA transferred from virus into bacteria but not protiens

Q

What did Erwin chargaff do?

A

Hey Siri DNA sequence of various species. There was different percent of a and T, GNC, because they are different species. He had two rules. Rule number one was amount of an equals amount of tea, amount of G equals amount of C, amount of peering equals amount of pyramid. Rule number two was a plus T does not equal G plus C ratios different amongst different species but same same organisms

Q

What for Franklin and Wilkins do?

A

Used x-ray diffraction to beam x-rays through a molecule. The x-ray yielded a shadow picture of the molecules structure by how the x-ray bounced off its parts. Discovery of dna helical structure in photo. Set the stage for future DNA work

Q

What did and Watson and Crick do?

A

Used Franklin’s images from the x-rays. Proposed DNA molecule was made up of two chains of nucleotides paired in such a way to form a double helix. How a DNA molecule could replicate itself during cell decision, enabling organisms to reproduce themselves accuracy except for occasional mutations.
