What are constitutional sx of UG dz?
back pain, dysuria, nocturia, unable to empty bladder, hematuria, incontinence, polyuria, proteinuria,
What is the most common symptoms of UG dz?
back pain as it is likely kidney stones or infected
What are sx that are only common to men?
difficulty with starting or stopping urine, testicular pain, swelling or mass in groin
What are risk factors for UG?
over 65, hx of diabetes, HTN, kidney dz, cardiac issues , stroke, kidney stones, UTI, autoimmune dz
What races are more likely to get UG dz?
african, hispanic, pacific island, native american
Who should be screened for UG?
men over 45, men with back pain and dysuria, changes in urinary patterns, any constitutional dx that isn’t mechanical
What is pseudo neural pain?
T10-T12 pain related to irritation of costal nerves, usually from some type of trauma
How do you R/I or R/O pseudo neural pain?
RO- percussion of kidney, GU screen
RI- A/P jt mob of ribs will produce sx therefore not UG problem
Is an upper UTI or lower UTI more common?
lower is more common but upper is more severe
What is involved with upper UTI?
kidney, ureteral
What are sx of upper UTI?
flank pain, fever chills, hematuria, pyuria, nocturia
What is involved in lower UTI?
bladder, urethra
What are sx of lower UTI?
polyuria, increased urgency, LBP/pelvic pain, dysuria, hematuria, pyuria
confusion with aging adults
What is an upper GU obstruction?
could be a kidney tumor or kidney stone
What are sx of upper GU obstruction?
renal colic, N/V, hematuria, fever chills, increased urge but nothing happening
