LLC: Students take courses together, study in groups, and socialize with other students, faculty, and
staff. The communities include on site classes, co-enrollment in classes, or reserved seats in
classes. Additionally, living/learning communities offer advising services, tutors, and unique
opportunities to interact with faculty members

▪ Approved by the University, but owned by private companies
▪ Approximately 25% of the entering freshman class chooses to live in one of these facilities
▪ Both co-ed and same sex facilities
▪ PCH facilities typically have larger rooms, almost all of which offer doubles or singles with
semi-private baths
▪ All units are air-conditioned
▪ Some PCH facilities offer different amenities than University Housing facilities (some have an indoor
pool, weekly maid service, washers and dryers in each unit)
▪ PCH rates can be competitive with University Housing rates
Housing Overview - University Housing

▪ There are 24 undergraduate and 2 graduate residence halls on campus.
▪ 75% of first-year students live in University Housing undergraduate residence halls.
▪ Mostly double rooms (more singles for Upper-Division Students) with a variety of bathroom types based on location.
▪ Beginning fall 2024, 91% of University Housing space will be air-conditioned.
▪ Rooms furnished with XL twin beds depending on location, bed configurations vary. More
room furnishing information available on the housing website.
▪ Co-ed housing assignments arranged by towers, layered floors, by wing, by room and within
room. Barton-Lundgren and Busey-Evans are single gender buildings with one building in
each complex designated for women and men. There is a non-visitation SLO on one wing
within Busey Hall.

University Residence Hall Staff
Resident Advisor (RA) – A live-in, full-time returning student who plans floor activities connected
to our residential curriculum, helps students adjust to the University, assists students with
individual problems or roommate issues, refers to campus resources and ensures University
policies are followed.
Resident Director (RD) – A live-in, full-time professional staff member who oversees the administration
of each hall and supervises the RA staff. These staff are on call nights and weekends to assist with
resident emergencies

Selecting a Residence Hall
Housing is guaranteed for new First-year students.
Students who submit a University Housing online contract by the priority deadline, will receive an
e-mail with a specific Time Ticket which will specify the first available time you can go online and
choose your specific room in a University Residence Hall.
Time tickets will be awarded by a random lottery system to those who met the priority deadline.
All housing contracts completed by/before May 15th will have the same chances of receiving
an early time slot to select their residence hall room.
Students who contract after May 15 will be provided an assignment by Housing.
University Housing contract can be completed 48 hours after accepting your offer of admission, after your student email address is live.
Selecting a Roommate
First time attending students who would like to live with a friend, can request them during
the first part of the housing contract. If both students agree to be roommates prior to the May
15 priority deadline, they will receive the same time ticket to choose their respective space
inside sample room / res amentities
Do not take more than a minute or two in the room itself.

Community Kitchens: All university halls have communities kitchens available for student use
Lounges: TVs, study tables, couches, etc.

Free-flow: Eat in any of the four University Housing residence hall dining facilities on campus.
Variety: Weekly menu rotation that varies by facility offers a variety of dishes for every meal.

▪ 12 Classic Meals/15 Dining Dollars per week
▪ 10 Classic Meals/45 Dining Dollars per week
▪ Most students do a combination plan; one of 2 above options
▪ All Classic Meals (dine up to 6 times per day, up to 42 meals per week)
▪ All Dining Dollars (130 per week)
▪ Classic meals-
▪ All you care to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. One traditional “swipe”
▪ Unused meals do not roll over to the next week

▪ Can be used at A La Carte locations; items priced individually
▪ Can be used to purchase classic meals or to treat friends

Transportation
Mostly a walking campus
Great bus system; 10+ different bus lines cross through campus
Campus routes run until 3 am on weekdays and 5 am on weekends.
▪ 5-minute service between residence halls and classes
▪ Buses also run to downtown Champaign, downtown Urbana, grocery stores, movie theaters
and the mall
▪ The cost of using the buses is included with student fees.
Bikes are a popular method of transportation
Freshmen are allowed to bring their own car, but the cost of a twelve-month parking pass is 780

The Quad
Center of campus for about 35,000 undergraduate & 20,500 graduate and professional students on
campus
▪ All undergraduate programs but one (Earth Society and Environmental Sustainability) are designed to
be completed on campus and in person. Many of the graduate students in the 20,500 number are
fully online students.
