Q

what do you write about in paragraph 1

A
  • contrast scrooges character in stave 1 and four to show a strong man turn into a trembling man
  • in stave 1 he’s so tight that he’s a sinner, against the very fabric of victorian society bible quote
  • in stave four he “bent down on his knee” which has religious connotations of beggin for forgivness, out of weakness and fear
  • overall dickens puts the two most influental things in victorian society up against each other, rich men vs god and god always wins, a warning to rch men

what do you write about in paragraph 2

A
  • dickens manipulates scrooges fears to present the extent of personal change and show redmption is possible
  • was once the feared “even the blind mens dogs” who are the lowest of the low fear him, even though they have nothing to lost such is the extent of peoples fears of scrooge
  • roles then revresed here where scrooge is asking so many questions like a child yet not recieving a reply. his reputation has fell to that of a whimpering child

  • now theres a lexical field where everything is specualtivw which is a fear of scrooges
  • shows himself s pathetic and unable to cope with something in which the poor have struggled with for the whole of their life. shows how the rich are weak yet the poor are strongly bonded to form a rigid unbreakable unit
