statue and suffering: Michelangelo’s Pieta
Status helps catholics to reflect on the meaning of suffering. One of the most famous statuses that does this is Michelangelo’s Pieta. it is a statue of Mary holding the body of her son after his crucifixion. the word ‘Pieta’ comes from the Latin word for holiness.
examples of going on a pilgrimage?
to help strengthen there faith
to pray for the sick
to pray for something special
to share the experience and their faith with other believers
as a way of thanking God
to seek physical spiritual or emotional healing
to do a penitential act as a reflection of sorrow for sin
to come closer to God by giving him time and attention
a group pilgramage may help an individual to feel part of church community
pilgrims pray together and feel supported by eachother.
