Fundimental search principles include:

A

Systematically clearing compartments.
Stretch into a room every 2m.
If search is interrupted for any reason, make note of where the search is left so it can be resomed.
For stairs going down, reach as far as possible with feet while keeping center of gravity on top.
For stairs going up, maintain ancour at the base with a foot while reaching as far as possible.
Control your breathing.
Periodically stop! Call out, listen, Look behind and around you for changing conditions.
Reach high and low on walls and corners.
Close doors/windows when possible.
