Sec M Flashcards
(57 cards)
What is the function of SG
To convert heat produced by the reactor in to steam.
used for ships propulsion, electrical power and auxiliary services
State 3 reason for blowing down SG
EOP actions (steam leak)
Reduce chloride concentration
Establish an SG level prior to flash up
To remove crud
Describe Nitrogen purging and sparging
sparging uses nitrogen to blow bubbles through the SG in order to mix up the chemicals inside and prevent settling
blanketing is using nitrogen to blanketing top of the SG to prevent oxygen from causing corrasion
State the pressure at which the SG reliefs lift and where do they relieve to?
MS 421(422) at 69 Bar
MS425(MS 426) at 73 Bar
discharges to O Comps or RC Bilge
State the Main Functions of the Main Steam system?
To supply Dry saturated steam from the SG to:
ME
TG
Aux steam
Main condensers for steam dumping
List the Secondary Functions of the Main Steam system?
protect the SG from over pressurisation
Allow blowing down SG
Allow sampling of SG water
Allow draining of the SG
Allow Nitrogen sparging for the SG
Provides nitrogen-blanketing for SG
State the interlocks for opening the Main Turbines Emergency Trip Valve (MTETV)
Ahead and Astern throttles valves shut
EPM clutch disengaged selected out
turning-gear disengaged
vacuum above 0.34 bar or override
LPS trip reset of O/R selected
State the trips for (MTETV) that will automatically shut
Main turbine over speed
LPS initiation
Operation of the shut button on the RP
Operation of low vacuum trip lever on SPC
vacuum pressure falls below 0.34
functions of Main Feed system
To supply
Cooling water to Air Ejectors & gland vapour condensers, steam dump spray during steam dump.
Feed water to accommodate SG level changes.
Maintain SG reference Legs
Monitor and maintain FW Quality and maintain chemistry
Extrach Decay Heat from the reactor while shitdown
Inject feed into the primary circuit in LOC
Maintain Hotwell levels
In what position does the aux steam reducer fail
It fails open, to maintain condenser vacuum
Function and operation of the air ejectors and gland steam condensers
They remove vapour from the condenser using nozzles to act as venturi, the vapour is then cooled using a feed water cooler, remaining vapour is removed in the second stage. any un-condensable gasses remaining are vented to the atmosphere in front of ATU 12 and 13
state the action to be take when the gland steam receiver loses:
- Automatic control
-Electrical failure
Automatic control-
Set AUTO/MANUAL/HAND control switch to Manual a control steam pressure in the receiver using the OPEN/SHUT button.
Electrical failure-
set AUTO/MANUAL/LOCAL control switch to Local clutch in hand wheel, then manually adjust steam pressure.
function of the Gland steam and EVAC system
To supply LP steam to and also evacuate from:
Main turbine glands
TG glands
Main turbine throttle valve glands
TG combined stop and emergency valve
TG nozzle control valve glands
Describe how the simplicity ball float trap operates
These valves use a reservoir where condensate enters high on one side, building up in the valve before lifting the ball float and allowing some of the condensate to drain away
State the function of the steam drains system
To drain condensate from:
MS System (HP)
TG CSEV (HP)
Main turbine interstates
Main turbine control valves
Gland steam supply and evacuation system
Air ejector and glands condenser
What pressure is the steam drains manifolds maintained at and why?
3.5bar
To limit the extend at which flash off occurs downstream of the HP drains collectors, this is before the drains enter the condenser.
list the main feed pump trip pressure.
Low suction trip at 0.15 bar
Low discharge pressure warning set at 35 Bar
state the electrical supplies for the main feed and extraction pumps.
feed Pps:
No1-E1
No2-E2
No3-E4
No4-E4 3 and 4 are cross connected
Ext Pps
No1- NE11
No2-NE10
No3-NE8
No4-NE7
3 and 4 are cross connected
List the function of the main feed system
To supply
Cooling water to air ejectors and glands vapour.
To maintain Hotwells levels
Inject feed into the primary circuit in LOC Accident
Extract decay heat from reactor when shut down
Maintain SG reference legs
Maintain FW quality and Maintain Chemistry
What is the function of the small-bore bleed valve fitted in parallel with the feed regulation valve?
To reduce thermal fatigue of the SG feed nozzle caused by temperature transients.
List ten systems which utilise water from the RFTS

2.Ion exchange column
3.ECCS
4.Coolant Make Up
5.RCFW cooling system

List the 3 main functions of the Feed Transfer system
Fill made water from SS
Transfer water from Made/RFT to any RFT
Receive water from the RO plants
Describe the operation of the feed transfer system during emergency HPMU
Feed water is supplied to the coolant make-up system (HPMU) to counter a primary circuit leak, RPV pressure will fall and Leak Protection System(LPS) will be tripped
ECCS Phase 1 is armed, if the pressure continues to fall ECCS injection commences
