Know your costs
• Volume doesn’t necessarily make up for low contract rates
• Antitrust laws prevent you from just using others’ costs… they can be
a starting point
• Consult with Attorney for contract review

• Rank priorities (low, medium, high… walk away if don’t get high
priorities) examples: audits, paperwork requirements
• Assignment clauses (PPO stacking or silent PPO’s)
• See the fee schedule in advance (if used)
• Claims time limits
• Termination Clauses
• Prior Authorization
Payment Methodologies think like fee for service or like per diem
Fee-for-Service
• Per-Visit (Per Diem)
• Per Episode ( certain amount of days)
• Capitation ( fixed rates depending on the service)
• Multiple Procedure or Cascade (bundle package)
• Patient (Self-pay)

• Employee talent & expertise important business asset
• Human Capital…… retaining employees, hiring from within (training &
recruitment costs)

Alternatively, Human capital is a collection of resources—all the knowledge, talents, skills, abilities, experience, intelligence, training, judgment, and wisdom possessed individually and collectively by individuals in a population

Plan • Screen • Prepare questions in advance • During interview • Establish rapport • Explain process • Gather information • Allow time for questions • Conclude interview • After the interview • Complete assessment, compare notes/discuss, check references, make decision, make offer, inform candidates
