Section 1 - Levels of Organisation Flashcards
(21 cards)
What organelles do both animals and plants cells contain
Nucleus, Cell membrane, Cytoplasm, Mitochondria, Ribosomes
What are organelles
Tiny structure within cells
What are eukaryotic cells
cells that have a nucleus and organelles that are surrounded by a membrane
What are prokaryotic cells
cells that lacks a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles
Nucleus
an organelle which contains the genetic material that control the cell’s activity
Cell membrane
Forms the outer surface of the cell and controls the substances that go in and out
Cytoplasm
a gel-like substance where most of the cell’s chemical reactions happen, it contains enzyme
Mitochondria
small organelles where most of the reactions for aerobic respiration take place
Ribosomes
small organelles where protein are made in the cell
What organelles only plants cells contain
Chloroplast, Cell wall, Vacuole
Chloroplasts
Where photosythesis happens and it contains cholophyll which are used in photosythesis
Cell wall
made of cellulose which surrounds the cell membrane and supports and strengthens it
Vacuole
a large organelle that contains cell sap which helps support the cell
What are simillar cells organised into
Tissues
What are tissues organised into
Organs
What do Organs make up
Organ systems
Tissue
a group of similar cells that work together to carry out a particular function
Organ
a group of different tissues that work together to perform a function
Example of tissues
Xylem tissue and Phloem tissue
Example of organ
Lungs in mammals and leaves on plants
Example of organ systems
Digestive system
