Q

What are the functions of the skeletal system? Give a little explanation for each function.

A
  1. Support. Large bones of the lower limbs act as pillars for the body trunk. Skeleton provides framework that anchors all organs.
  2. Protection. rib cage encloses the thoracic cavity and skull. Also protects the soft tissue of the nervous system, through vertebrae.
  3. Blood cell formation. Hematopoiesis occurs within the marrow cavaties of the bone.
  4. Storage. Fat is found on the inside of bones.
  5. Movement. Skeletal muscles use the bones as levers.

Q

Which is more important for the protection of our internal organs? The axial and appendicular skeleton?

Q

What happens when bone marrow is not properly producing red blood cells?

A

It results in sickness. This is known as Lukemia. People with this sickness are often known to need a healthy bone marrow transplant.

Q

What does the appendicular skeleton make up?

A

Makes up the rest of the bones in the body that is not part of the axial skeleton. Makes up the upper and lower limbs.

Think Appendage=appendicular
