Describe the condition when SWL can be exceeded. (M.O. 32)

A

a) Under test.
b) A single sheave is rigged as a double whip / gun tackle so that the load is suspended from its head fitting. Load not > 2x the SWL.
c) It is a crane/ derrick that meets all of the following:
- occasional lifts
- approved by Master or Owners
- x exceed proof load
- load is inspected by a competent
person and agrees the ops can
proceed.

When to discard wire rope under M.O. 32?

A

A wire rope must have at least 114 constituent parts, relating directly to a 6/19 wire rope as its minimum standard. The total no. of visible broken constituent wires in a length of rope equal to 10x its diameter must not exceed 5% of the wires constituting the rope.
