Section 2 Lecture 1: Membrane Trafficking Flashcards
(8 cards)
What are polarized cells
Cells that are different at either end. They have an apical and basolateral domain
Describe the functions of polarized cells
- have different functions at different cell regions
- define inside vs outside
- transmit signals from one end to the other
What are two ways that membrane trafficking can send different proteins to different domains
1) exocytosis directly to the target domain
2) exocytosis to any domain then endocytosis followed by recycling to the target domain
What is an example of a polarized trafficking route
ER to golgi to plasma membrane
What is an example of a sorting station
The trans-golgi network. proteins are organized
how does most cargo move through the golgi and what is a main feature of this method
constitutive secretion. Specific signals are not required
What are the three secretory pathways
1) signal-mediated diversion to lysosomes via endosomes
2) signal-mediated diversion to secretory vesicles (for regulated secretion
3) constitutive secretory pathway
