  1. Economic probs (corn laws, bad harvests, unemployment etc.)
  2. Political dissatisfaction (wanted: secret ballots, universal male suffrage, break the under-representation in the north etc.)
  3. Social reasons (Industrial revolution, dramatic social and geographical change.
    - can call either social or economic issues poverty if necessary
