What are Penalty Notice for Disorder?
introduced Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001. Used for offences where arrests aren’t necessary (theft, drug possession)
how do arrests link to public security?
been a decline of arrests. In 2022, police arrested over 52% less than 2007, because of less police, more out-of-order disposals, introduction of voluntary interviews before arrests.
What is the panopticon?
allows those watching to view all inmates from a central vantage point without knowing they are being watched - infringement of privacy
What is the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001?
allowed indefinite detention without trial for foreign nationals. Resulted in people being detained for indefinite periods, so those in detention were not allowed to see evidence against them - infringement of due process model (fair trial)
what is the policing regulation?
the Police and Criminal Act 1984 - give police more powers. They could use more stop and searches, enter private property, take fingerprints, detain a person in custody. Leads to increase prejudice and bias (minorities targeted in stop and searches), e.g. Rodney King and George Floyd
