blurred vision, yellow/orange rash, dizzy, diplopia

SJS, TEN, aseptic meningitis

Lamictal use
-seizures associated w/ lennox gastaut syndrome
-tonic clonic
-monotherapy of focal seizures
carbamazepine (tegretol) use
first line for focal seizures, off label use is BPD
tegretol adverse
bone marrow suppression, nystagmus, ataxia, blurred vision, vertigo, headache
tegretol interactions
coumadin, oral BC, grapefruit juice
tegretol note
not preg safe
may cause hyponatremia
need to monitor liver function
oxcarbazepine (trileptal) adverse
happen in the beginning
-dizzy, ataxia, nystagmus, hyponatremia, diplopia
topiramate (topamax) use
-lennox gestaut seizures
-BPD
-migraines
-cluster headaches
-bulimia
-binge eating
topamax adverse
dizzy, ataxia, diplopia, anorexia, metabolic acidosis, hypohydrosis, hyperhermia, angle closure glaucoma
tegretol note
increased risk of suicide
phenobarbital adverse
lots of sedation, nystagmus, ataxia, psychological effects, osteomalacia, learning impairment
phenytoin (dilantin) adverse
sedation, ataxia, cog impairment, cardiac dysrythmias, gingival hyperplasia, nystagmus, purple glove syndrome
phenobarbital drug interactions
coumadin, BC, cns depressants
dilantin drug interactions
increases level of benzos, decreases BC, alcohol

take w food, not pregnancy safe
vimpat adverse
dizzy, visual changes, prolonged QR interval, increased SI
vimpat note
only for adults
gabapentin adverse
peripheral edema, somnolence, fatigue, ataxia, nystagmus
valproate (depakote) adverse
indigestion, hepatotoxicity, pancreatitis, rash, weight gain, hair loss, blood dyscrasias

not for children under 2, not pregnancy safe
pregablin (lyrica) adverse
diplopia, dizzy, edema, weight gain, dry mouth, peripheral edema, rhabdomyolysis
