What is a seizure?

A

A short, sudden occurrence of symptoms (e.g. jerking, twitching)
due to abnormal electrical brain activity

A
  • epilepsy
  • brain injury
  • severe kidney disease
  • medications (e.g. overdose)
  • metabolic disturbances (e.g. hypoglycemia)

A

Chronic neurological disorder that makes people susceptible to having recurrent unprovoked seizures

epilepsy is when 2 or more unprovoked seizures occur

  • Intense involuntary movement (jerking, spasms)
  • Rigid body
  • Clenched / tight jaw
  • Loss of mouth control (drooling)
  • Loss of bladder control (incontinence)
