Poetic phrase used in place of the usual name of a noun
Parallelism
Agreement in direction, tendency, or character
Rhetoric
The excessive use of exaggeration.
Rhetorical Question
Question asked to produce effect (not intended to get a response)
Connotation
An associated meaning to a word
Denotation
The explicit meaning of a word.
Paradox
A statement/situation that is self contradictory.
Antithesis
The use of opposite phrases next to each other.
Dramatic Irony
Irony understood by the audience but not the characters.
Tone
A quality that expresses a feeling in a story.
Plot
Exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, denumount.
Allusion
A casual reference to something else (book, poem, movie, person).
Metaphor
Saying one thing is exactly like something else.
Simile
Comparing two things using the word like or as.
Personification
Giving human like qualities to an inanimate object or animal.
Primary Source
Pertaining to, or being, a first hand account of something.
Secondary Source
Being a dirvation of the primary source.
Diction
Accents/inflections on words.
