SENSORY-NEURAL PART 2 Flashcards
(16 cards)
activated when a tendon is stimulated (tapped) and its associated
muscle contracts.
Deep Tendon Reflex (DTR)
indicative of possible spinal cord injury.
Normal: Negative, all five toes
bend downward;
Babinski/Plantar refleX
are sensory nerve terminals that occur chiefly in the muscles, tendons, joints, and internal ear. They give information about movements and the position of the body.
Proprioceptors
assess functions that require whole body movement and which involve the large muscles of the body to perform everyday functions
Gross motor tests
indicates vestibular system, sensory system, proprioceptive system
Romberg test
detects problems in locomotion
Gait test
stiff-foot dragging walk caused by unilateral leg muscle hypertonicity
Spastic gait
Adduction of thighs with each step, causing knees to hit or cross in SCISSOR LIKE MOVEMENT
Scissors gait
Stooped, rigid posture. Cardinal sign of advanced Parkinson’s disease
Propulsive gait
Results form footdrop , which causes outward rotation of hip and exaggerated flexion of KNEE
Steppage gait
Distinctive DUCKLIKE walk
WADDLING GAIT
abnormal responses to touch stimuli include loss of sensation
anesthesia-
more than normal sensation
Hyperesthesia-
less than normal sensation
Hypoesthesia
abnormal sensation such as burning, pain, or an electric shock
Paresthesia
areas of the skin that have connections to specific spinal nerves.
Dermatomes-
