Modifiers definition
Modifiers provide additional information about noun, verb or main clause.
Modifiers can be a word, phrase or clause.
Noun Modifier Usage
Always place the noun modifier close to the noun
Verb Modifier Usage
Verb modifier may be placed away from the verb it is modifying as long as the sentence makes sense.
Verb modifier answers the question how when why where?

Types of modifiers
Verb-ed modifier
Only modifies the noun and can not modify phrase. Verb-ing modifies phrase
Perfect tense - past perfect
Past perfect refers to sequence of past event about actions that were completed before some point in past.
Verb - ing Modifier
Noun - verb -ing Modifier providing extra information on noun.
Action (verb) - verb-ing Modifier describes an action. Structure: subject verb object , verb-ing Modifier. There is always a comma indicating action modifier.
If the structure is:
verb-ing modifier, noun or verb ( if Modifier is in the beginning it can modify either depending on the context)

2. Modified doer and modified action doer should make sense. If not then replace with noun + noun modifier
Verb-ed modifier
Verb Ed Modifier modifies the noun.
The noun ahead of verb-ed: did it perform the action?? If the answer is yes then it is a verb. If the answer is no then the verb-Ed is a modifier.
Relative Pronoun Modifier
People vs. things
Who = people Which = things That = things Whose = people or things
Who vs whom
Whom refers to the object
Who refers to subject
Noun.. additional info noun, relative pronoun is ok sentence as long as the meaning of the sentence is clear.
Past perfect tense
Had + past participle
Action that occurred in past before another past action
Present Perfect
Have or has+ past participle
Action happened in past but continued in present or their effect is felt in present
Conditional future tense
Simple past tense and WOULD
Water freezes if it were cooled to zero degree Celsius. The verb were is correct or incorrect?
Since the statement is general truth or rule verb tense doesn’t apply.
Correct sentence: water freezes if it is cooled to zero degree celsius
Use of like vs as ( comparison)
Like is used to compare noun, pronoun, noun phrases
As is used to compare phrase only
Ex as her brother did, Ava aced the test

Like Unlike As Than As adjective as Different from In contrast to/ with
Comparative vs Superlative
Comparative: When comparing 2 things
Superlative: when comparing more than 2 things
Most commonly tested pronouns
The deadly 5
It, it’s , they, them, theirs
Always check the antecedent when I see these five and also check difference in the answer.
