Q

How do you carry out filtration?

A
  1. Equipment: filter funnel, filter paper, conical flask
  2. Pour mixture into filter paper
  3. The liquid passes through the tiny pores in the filter paper
  4. The solid material can’t pass through the filter paper so it’s trapped
  5. Now the liquid is separate from the solid

Q

How to carry out crystallisation?

A
  1. Gently heat up the solution
  2. When most of the liquid has evaporated
  3. Leave it out to dry
  4. Then you have crystals

Certain chemicals will break down with heat so it is best to let it evaporate naturally.
