Q

Management of sepsis?

A

“ABC”

Airway
Breathing
Circulation
“sepsis six”

Take bloods (FBC, U&E, LFT, CRP, lactate)
Take blood cultures
Administer oxygen if required
Administer IV antibiotics
Administer IV fluid resuscitation
Monitor urine output

Other investigations:
Imaging e.g chest xray, echocardiogram, abdominal ultrasound
Viral PCR for e.g. influenza
Urinalysis +/- culture
Lumbar puncture
Ongoing management depends on the source and severity:

IV antibiotic therapy
Surgical removal of source of infection
Critical care involvement
