It connects Manali and Lahaul Spiti Valley Is built in the Pir Panjal range of Himalayas, at an altitude of 3,000 metres (10,000 ft) from the Mean Sea Level. It reduces the road distance between Manali and Leh by 46kms and time by about 4 to 5 hours. The distance between Manali and Keylong (Himachal) will be reduced 3-4 hours. The South portal of the Atal Tunnel is located at a distance of 25 kilometres from Manali. It has two components:- - Setting up AIIMS like institutions - a total of 22 AIIMS have been announced so far. 6 AIIMS are already functional and 16 more AIMMS are announced, out of which 15 have been approved by the cabinet - Upgradation of Government medical Colleges : 75 projects have been considered under this component under 6 phases.
