Sequencing Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
What is DNA sequencing?
A
Mapping out the DNA base sequence of all the DNA in an organism.
2
Q
What does the DNA base sequencing allow scientists to identify?
A
The proteome of organisms.
3
Q
Why is using the DNA base sequence to identify the proteome of complex organisms more difficult?
A
The genome of complex organisms contain non-coding regions and regulatory genes which makes it difficult to translate the knowledge to the genome into the proteome because not all the DNA codes for proteins.
4
Q
How can sequencing the genome of a pathogen help create a vaccine that targets that pathogen?
A
- Mapping out the genome can helps map up the proteome of the pathogen.
- Some of the proteins that make up the proteome of the pathogen are proteins that act as antigens.
- The vaccines can then be designed to contain the specific antigens.
- The immune system will produced Antibodies that are complementary to that antigen.
