Q

Why is using the DNA base sequence to identify the proteome of complex organisms more difficult?

A

The genome of complex organisms contain non-coding regions and regulatory genes which makes it difficult to translate the knowledge to the genome into the proteome because not all the DNA codes for proteins.

Q

How can sequencing the genome of a pathogen help create a vaccine that targets that pathogen?

A
  1. Mapping out the genome can helps map up the proteome of the pathogen.
  2. Some of the proteins that make up the proteome of the pathogen are proteins that act as antigens.
  3. The vaccines can then be designed to contain the specific antigens.
  4. The immune system will produced Antibodies that are complementary to that antigen.
