Definition
A
- refers to pain under the 1st MPJ joint
- Medial sesamoid frequently damaged

Causes
A
- Trauma or overuse injury often leading to stress fracture
- Seen often in runners that impact at forefoot

Anatomy
A
-Sesamoids are imbedded in FHB, function is too absorb weight, assist with windlass and protect FHL

Diagnosis
A
- What is MOA acute or repetitive stress
- palpation in area
- Failure to accept load
- pain worse when barefoot

Treatment
A
- NSAID, ICE and rest for inflammation
- offloading, Wing pad to offload pressure away from sesamoids
- 1st Ray cut out
- approx, 6 weeks in boot
