Goals vs. Objectives - what is the difference?

A

Goals are general, broad and strategic, and may not be measurable or tangible.

Objectives are specific, measurable and tactical. They can be measured and are tangible.

What does SMART stand for?

A

Specific (concrete, detailed, action-oriented)
Measurable (progress can be tracked and completed with tangible evidence)
Achievable (should be stretching and challenging but not unachievable)
Realistic (should have a realistic chance to achieve)
Time-bound (have a deadline for completion, creating a sense of urgency)

A

They let you:

1) focus
2) provide a sense of direction
3) determine what is important and whatnot
4) improve time management
5) gives you a sense of achievement

How to set Great Objectives?

A

1) Set objectives that motivates you
2) Set SMART objectives for these
3) Put it down in writing
4) Make an action plan for each
5) Stick with them!

How to write Great Objectives?

A

1) Provide a summary for each (including all SMART components)
2) Establish actions and think about how to achieve them
3) Set a numeric goal (how much should x by improved by y)
4) Set a timeframe
5) Be aware of the challenged (try to uncover them)
