(89 cards)
What does this book refer to?
This book refers to the established Sunnah, regardless of whether it has to do with creed, worship, Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence), etiquettes, or conducts. All of these are called Sunnah in the general sense.
What is the meaning of Sharh as-Sunnah?
It means the explaining the way of the Sunnah.
What is the ONLY way to unite the Muslims?
Only upon the correct creed (Aqeedah).
What should Muslims live in agreement with?
What Allah loves and is pleased with, in actions, sayings, and beliefs. And we seek the protection from Allah, that He should distance us from what displeases Him in actions, sayings, and beliefs.
What is Islam?
The worship of Allah (Jalla Jalaluhu) alone at all times with what He has ordained.
Every Prophet invited (his people) to Allah and came with a legislation from Allah and that is Islam.
What is the relationship between the Sunnah and Islam?
Islam is Sunnah; Sunnah is Islam. One cannot be established without the other.
What is the Jama’ah?
The Muslim community that is upon truth.
The Jama’ah is established with what two matters?
- Its methodology is based on the Qur’an and the Sunnah,
- A leader who leads it and to whom its affairs return.
What is the foundation in which the Jama’ah is built upon?
The Companions of the Prophet, those who came after them (Tabi’un), and the successors of the Tabi’un, and the best generations.
Those who emulate them from among the later generations are also a part of this Jama’ah.
What is Al-Bid’ah?
This refers to acts of worship, beliefs, or sayings that have no proof from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah.
What is obligatory upon you to reach the truth?
What is obligatory upon you is to refer to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah; and he should not remain upon his assumption, though, and what others tell him is the truth; for this does not form an excuse.
Issues of Ijtihad vs. Divinely restricted Issues?
For the former, one can strive and exert his effort and ability in research till he becomes certain that such is the truth.
For the latter, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO IJTIHAD whatsoever, rather it is obligatory to follow the proofs.
He who desires that his deeds are righteous and beneficial must abide by what two matters?
- Making his Religion for Allah alone, free from Shirk (polytheism),
- Following the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (صَلَّ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ), and purifying his following of the Messenger of Allah ((صَلَّ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) from innovations and newly invented matters.
What two matters are we in between?
That we follow the correct religion or we follow desires; there is no third of them.
What will happen to the people of innovation?
They will be in the Fire, but they will vary.
Some will abide in there forever due to their disbelief, some due to their sin.
Their judgement will be the judgement of those who committed major sins.
Do you stay silent about the evil of innovators?
NO! It is a must to expose them in public, to the people, so that they may not be misguided.
Disagreement concerning ‘Aqeedah is only among whom?
The misguided sects.
Discussion about (the essence of) the Lord is what?
A newly invented matter; it was introduced by the people of misguidance who do not submit to the texts.
Should we ask the ‘how’ of the Attributes of Allah?
No. Pass the narrations on as they came.
What is the view of Ahl as-Sunnah regarding the Qur’an?
It is the Word of Allah,
He spoke it in reality,
Angel Jibril heard it from Him, and descended with it to the Prophet.
What is the view of Ahl as-Sunnah regarding attributes of Allah and humans?
The Attributes of Allah are not similar to those of creatures. Allah has Names and Attributes that befit Him and His Greatness.
Humans have names and qualities befitting them and their human nature.
Will the believers see their Lord on the Day of Resurrection?
Yes, wit their naked eyes, as clearly as one sees the moon on the night of a full moon.
What to believe about the Mizan (Scale)?
- It will be used to weigh the slave’s deeds on the Day of Resurrection,
- It is a physical balance with two scales and a tongue,
- Good deeds will be placed in one scale and evil deeds in the other.
What is our belief regarding the punishment of the grave?
We believe that the dead is either punished in his grave or given bliss till he is resurrected on the Day of Resurrection.
