Sheep Eye Dissection Flashcards
(25 cards)
What are the two parts of the outer ear?
A) Pinna
B) Auditory Canal
What are the four parts of the middle ear?
A) Ear drum
B) Ossicles
C) Oval Window
D) Eustachian Tube
What are the three parts of the inner ear?
A) Cochlea
B) Auditory Nerve
C) Semicircular Canals
Where is the location of the finna? What is it’s structure and function?
Structure: Shaped like funnel
Function: Collect sound and send to auditory canal
Location: Outer Ear
Where is the location of the auditory canal? What is its structure and function?
Structure: Tube like, 2.5 cm connects to pinna and eardrum.
Function: Send sound to ear drum.
Location: Outer Ear.
Where is the eardrum? What is its structure and function?
Structure: Thin Membrane
Function: a. seperate outer ear and inner ear
b. vibrate sound waves and hit ossicles
Location: Middle Ear.
Where is the ossicles? What is its structure and function?
Structure: 3 Tiny Bones - Eardrum - Oval window
Function: Magnifies the vibration - send to ear drum.
Location: Middle Ear
Where is the Oval window? What is its structure and function?
Structure: Thin membrane at the end of Ossicles, seperate middle ear from inner ear.
Function: Transfer vibration from ossicles to inner ear.
Where is the eustachian tube? What is its structure and function?
Structure: Tube that connects the middle ear to the throat.
Function: Balance air pressure.
Location: Middle ear
Where is the cochlea? What is its structure and function?
Structure: Spiral shape tube filled with liquid linked to sensory receptor
Function: Detect vibration and connect to nerve impulse
Location: Inner ear
Where is the Auditory nerve? What is its structure and function?
Structure: Nerve connecting ear to brain.
Function: Send nerve impulse from cochlea to brain to interpet sound.
Location: Inner ear
Where is the semicircular canals? What is its structure and function?
Structure: 3 loop canal, contains fluid and sensory cells
Function: Help body maintain its balance
Location: inner ear
What is the job of the cornea?
- transparent membrane that covers iris and
pupil. Focuses light on the retina.
What does the pupil do?
Hole passes different amount of light.
What does the iris do?
Colored part of the eye that controls the size of the pupil.,
What does the sclera do?
Whites of the eye that form the outer covering
What does the Aqueous Humor do?
Aqueous Humor- nutritious fluid between the iris and
the cornea. As we age, it breaks down and we begin
to see “floaters”
What does the cillary muscle do?
Ciliary Muscles- produces aqueous humor and
controls lens shape
What does the Lens do?
Lens- Bends light rays to the back of the eye –retina.
Elastic so change in shape allows for focus on
objects close up or far away
What does the retina do?
• Full of light receptors which are sensitive to: • Cones - Colour • Rods - Light levels • Massive blood supply is also needed
What is the job of the virteous humor?
Vitreous Humor- transparent jelly-like fluid that fills
the eye and refracts light
What is the job of the optic nerve?
Optic nerve sends messages picked up by the retina to the brain
What is the “Blind spot”
- area where optic
nerve attaches. No retina is
located there so information
cannot be picked up; “Blind”
What is the choroid layer?
lies between the
sclera and the retina it provides
the blood supply to the eye.
