What is it?
Traditional media - shaped by centralised media producers
We are now PROSUMERS - as we can like/comment/share so we interact with it
Focus on the explosion of technology
If media products don’t allow us to interact we look elsewhere
We now have a balance of power?

Daily Mail still views print audiences as homogenous, predictable body which is evidenced by house style
Guardian appreciates that its audiences’ behavior is more variable, evidenced in a range of content and coverage
Relate to New - Online
Websites both outlets allow audiences to be PROSUMER hence higher readership numbers
How the theory is useful?
Explains the revolutionary effects of online media and the threat it poses to print media
Draws attention to citizen journalist
How is theory not useful?
Not all readers engage in this way as prosumers
A change in hierarchy not an equality – media producers are still originally prosumers
