(38 cards)
Anaphylactic Shock
Shock caused by an allergic reaction
Cardiogenic Shock
The heart fails to pump enough blood to the body.
Cardiac Tamponade
Fluid buildup around the heart, preventing proper pumping.
Compensated Shock
Early stage of shock where the body can still compensate for blood loss.
Cyanosis
Blue-skin colored discoloration caused by a reduced level of oxygen in the blood.
Decompensated Shock
Late stage of shock when blood pressure is falling.
Distributive Shock
Widespread blood vessel dilation that causes low blood pressure.
Homepstasis
A balance of all systems in the body.
Edema
Swelling caused by fluid buildup in tissues.
Hypovolemic Shock
Severe fluid or blood loss causes low blood pressure.
Pericardial Effusion
A collection of fluid between the pericardial sac and the myocardium
Septic SHock
Shock caused by severe infection, usually bacterial.
Synocope
Fainting, or loss of consciousness.
Pulmonary Embolism or Embolus
A blood clot that breaks off from a large vein and travels through the blood vessels of the lung, obstructing blood flow.
Acidosis
Buildup of excess acid in the blood or body tissues.
Atelectasis
Collapse of the alveolar air spaces of lungs
Emphysema
Lung disease causing damaged air sacs and breathing difficulty.
Diphtheria
A bacterial infection causing throat swelling and breathing difficulty.
Pleural Effusion
Collection of fluid between lung and chest wall that may compress lung
Rhonchi
Low pitched breathing sounds, in patients with chronic mucus in upper airways
Rigor Mortis
Stiffening of the body, sign of death.
Ischemia
Reduced blood flow to tissues, causing oxygen deprivation.
Meningitis
Inflammation of the brain and spinal cord membranes.
Asystole
The complete absence of heart electrical activity.
