How is Nirguna Brahman different than Saguna Brahman? Which yogas are ideally suited to each and why?
Nirguna Brahman is God without attributes so Brahman is the self. Saguna Brahman is God with attributes which means the ideal person is different from the self.
-Jnana & raja yoga both suited to Nirguna Brahman because they both believe that atman is Brahman.
-Bhakti yoga fits more in to Saguna than Nirguna Brahman because Bhakti is the way to God through love and devotion. If you devote your love to Brahman then you become like Brahman and is united with all things.
Karma is sorta in both. It fits In Nirguna because karma is a way to God through work and one does not desire the fruit of their labor because one true self is everything. It is a part of Saguna because in serving others its serving God. Devoting the fruits of their labor to God.
What is the ultimate reality in Hinduism and what is it like ? How does moksha relate to it?
Brahman is the ultimate reality. There are two ways of thinking about Brahman: Nirguna Brahman which is God without attributes and Saguna which is God with attributes. Through the practice of Jnana yoga, raja yoga, karma yoga, Bhakti yoga we can achieve moksha. Moksha is unity with Brahman.
How does Jnana yoga help its practitioner to unite with God? Is this yoga more applicable for those who adhere to Advaita or Dvaita Vedanta ?
Jana yoga which is the way to God through knowledge. It helps them unite with God because it’s the intellectual insight that “I am the one”
- arguments that you are not your surface self so basically you’re a spirit rather than the body
- think of the self as a third person. So you become the witness and looks on which is the deeper self. Atman is not connected to the body.
This yoga is more adhere to Avaita because the God is the self.
How does raja yoga promote unity with Brahman and who is it considered the royal road?
Raja yoga becomes one with God through meditation. Quiet down their body and then quiet down their mind. Position yourself mud way between comfort and discomfort. Then the distinction then blurs then unite with everything that you are one with everyone.
-this is the royal road because it’s the path to God that utilizes more of us. The mind and the body and it also leads more people to enlightenment.
What is Bhakti Yoga ? Why are inmates, myths and rituals especially important for it ? And why does one have to choose an Ishta?
Bhakti yoga is the way to God through love and devotion. The images and myths helps bind yourself with the God.
She has to chose and Ishta(God of your chosen ideal) because in order to be able to devote to Brahman they need and image, myth and rituals.One image, one God so it is easier for them to develop that relationship and devote to it.
