Protagonist/Main Character
A
- The central character in the conflict, whether he/she be a sympathetic or unsympathetic person
- the person around whom the plot is constructed and the action revolves

Antagonist
A
- The person or force in opposition to the protagonist

Round Character
A
- A complex, many sided character
- a well-developed, realistic character having several sides to his/her nature

Flat Character
A
- A character who is not fully developed, with only one or two traits
- minor characters remain flat

Stock Character
A
- A stereotyped figure who has occurred so often in fiction that his/her nature is immediately known, such as the mad scientist or the cruel stepmother

Dynamic/Developing Character
A
- A Character who grows and changes in the story, who comes to a realization about himself/herself or the world
- A character who changes his/her goals, ideals, or habits

Static Character
A
- A character who does not change over the course of the story
- a character who is the same sort of person at the end of the story as he/she was at the beginning
