short term effects of exercise Flashcards

(10 cards)

1
Q

what are the short term effects on the muscular system

A
  • release extra energy for movement which generates heat
  • sick or light headed
  • tired
  • delayed muscle soreness

Q

how does your body reduce lactic acid

A

lactic acid builds up during anaerobic exercise, causing lactate accumulation
this causes pain and muscle fatigue
the muscles need oxygen to remove lactic acid, the amount of oxygen they need is oxygen debt,
to repay oxygen debt, you will need to reduce exercise e.g. periods of rest or low intensity work

Q

how do your blood vessels change during exercise

A

arteries widen to reduce blood pressure
and to move blood transport to primarily the muscles
arterioles vasodilate to let in more blood
blood moves closer to skin to reduce heat by sweat

Q

what happens as a result of increase oxygen delivery

A

breathing rate and depth increase
cardiac output increases so blood passes through the lungs at a faster rate

Q

what happens as a result of increased carbon dioxide removal

A

increased cardiac output means more carbon dioxide is transported to lungs from muscles
gas exchange is faster due to increased breathing and depth rate
