What can cause SIADH?

A

Malignancy (especially bronchial small cell carcinoma)
Infection (particularly pneumonia, but any infection can cause)
Cerebral disease (SAH, meningitis)
Medications (SSRIs, carbamazepine, thiazides)

What features are needed to diagnose SIADH?

A
Euvolaemic patient
Hyponatraemia
Low serum osmolarity
High urine sodium 
High urine osmolarity

Exclusion of other causes:

  • Glucocorticoid deficiency
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Diuretic therapy
