Are there any side effects of Cr supplementation?

A

Liver and kidney problems proposed.

However no biomechanical evidence of eventual impairment of kidney or liver functions in humans.

Gastrointestinal problems - if over 40g/day take, Cr it incompletely dissolved.

What did Rawon and Venezizia (2010) find about Cr?

A

Elderly people naturally have decreased strength, muscle density and muscle creatine.

Emerging evidence that Cr ingestion can aid with these problems.

Cr also found to increase brain creatine stores - associated with improved neuromuscular performance.

Ageing, as well as sleep deprivation, also naturally impairs cognitive performance, therefore cr supplementation may aid this too.

And reduce the likelihood of diseases such as sarcopenia.

What did Cooper et al. (2012) find about Cr?

A

More recent research has found that Cr supplementation can improve training adaptations in cellular and subcellular level.

Studies also show that creatine loading protocol negatively influenced both ankle dorsiflexion and shoulder abduction.

Due to Cr increasing intracellular water content and therefore muscle stiffness.

More research required at sub cellular level to fully reveal Cr effect on performance.
