List and describe three types of bone fracture.
Green stick:The bone is bent but not broken.
- Simple fracture:The bone is broken but the skin is intact.
- Compound fracture:(open fracture) the broken ends of the bone sticks out through the skin.
Explain how the embryo skeleton changes from being cartilage into bone.
-Minerals are deposited into the cartilage (calcium phosphate). The cartilage becomes ossified (turned into bone).
Why do you think there is a higher incidence of osteoporosis in Scandinavia?
- Higher population of elderly women
- Higher consumption of Animal proteins

What is osteoporosis?
Soft bones - more susceptible to fractures,which may happen in a fall
Why do children need to drink milk or eat cheese to make their bones strong?
Children need more cartilage at the ends of their bones compared to adults because they are still growing.
What is meant by the term periosteum?
A tough membrane covering outer surface of bone
