SLT Approach Flashcards
(4 cards)
Main assumptions
Environment effects behaviour but interacts with cog
Learn through vicarious reinforcement
Learn through identification with role models
Treatments
Use of pro social role model- to reduce domestic violence but encourages more pro social role model in children
Strats for improving parenting- sure start programme to look at communication skills and parenting skills
Theories
SLT-
Identification with role models
Will observe the role models behaviour
Then imitate it
Particularly if the person thinks they have self efficacy to pull of the same behaviour
Mediational processes-
Attention - more likely to pay attention to bevahour from role models similar to them
Retention- will retain modelled behaviour remembering how the role models acted
Motor reproduction- the person will imitate info they have retained
Motivation - more likely to imitate if they have vicariously reinforced it (e.g if the role models acted was rewarded)
PEELs
P scientific
E bobo dolls
E standardised, only change was gender of the model
L lack of mundane realism
P real life imp
E Jamie bulger case- imitated child play in their offense
E SLt had explanationary power
L but can’t assume all behaviour is through imitation
P - ignores biology and emotions
E aggression is due to testosterone in CDH13
E may be biological
L more holistic than learning theory
