What were the problems and issues encountered
A
- Houses were built of thatched roof or corrugated iron sheets
- Houses were made of straw, wooden huts and Shacks, very common in port louis
- During cyclones in 1960 for example cyclones alise and Carol or even heavy rains, Many houses were destroyed and people became homeless as houses were not strong
- In 1975, Cyclone Gervaise hit the country

Solution or remedial action
A
- The government tacked the problem by setting :CHA ( Central housing authority), a housing reconstruction programme with concrete houses
- Around 14000 houses were built in both rural and urban areas
- Houses were sold at subsidised price by making a monthly payment over a period of 25 years
- Longtill company was responsible for the construction
- After cyclone Gervaise the government construct 10000 more houses in 5 years with the help of CHA
- Loans were provided at low interest rates to purchase loans

- In 1973 Mauritius received a certificate for the elimination of Malaria
- Main Hospital in Rodrigues is crève cœur and dispensaries
