What makes up the cardiovascular system?
The cardiovascular system is formed by our heart and blood vessels. Cardio means heart and vascular means blood vessels.
What are the three main functions of the cardiovascular system?
Transports oxygen,carbon dioxide and nutrients.
It helps clot blood
It controls the body’s temperature
What is vasoconstriction?
If you become too cold your vessels get smaller to avoid heat being lost.
What is vasodilation?
If you get too hot the blood vessels close to the skin get bigger.
What is vascular shunting?
Diverting blood from certain areas of the body to others, usually from organs to the working muscles during exercise achieved via vasodilation and vasoconstriction.
What triggers vascular shunting?
The hormone adrenaline.
What is adrenaline?
A hormone which the body creates to bring about a change in your heart rate. It makes the heart beat faster and diverts blood away from organs and to the muscles.
