Is a multibillion- pound industry with sporting levels and performances attracting huge media interest and sponsorship deals.
Sportsmanship
Qualities of fairness, following the rules , being gracious in defeat or victory
Examples of sportsmanship
Shaking hands at the end of a game
Being honest and respectful to officials
Gamesmanship
Bending the rules/ laws of a sport without actually breaking them
Examples of gamesmanship
Claiming a catch in cricket when you know the ball has ben bounced
Time wasting
Deviance
Behaviour that falls outside the norms or what is thought to be acceptable
Example of deviance
Diving to win a penalty in football
Doping- using performance enhancing drugs to gain unfair advantage
Positives deviance
Deviance where there is no intention to cause harm or break the rules
Negatives deviance
Deviance that has a detrimental effect
Examples on positive deviance
Continues to play whilst someone is injured
Examples on negative deviance
Take Performance enhancing drugs
Rules and regulations are broken
The referrer has to administer the rules

Some sports still seen as ‘male’ or ‘female’

Some sports suit younger people or older people

Can affect choice of sport, but things change ; cost can be a factor

Some sports more common in certain groups; racism in sport
