what are mead’s 4 stages of childhood socialization
- Preparatory (0-3)
- Play (3-5)
- Games (6-12)
- Recognize the generalized other (age varies)
Mead’s ‘preparatory’ stage
no sense of self, mimics behaviours

Stages of moral development:
- preconventional
- conventional (aware of other’s feelings)
- post conventional (thinking in abstract terms)
Gender factor
girls are seen as emotional, boys are seen as stronger
The family social group:
helps lay down a basic sense of self, teaches basic skills and values, gender and birth order play a role in treatment
the School social group:
teaches more complex skills/knowledge , introduces kids to peer groups
The peer group social group:
groups people be common interests, having unique values
Why is a peer social group so powerful?
