What is Quality of Life?
Well-being of individuals in a society
What makes a country have high quality of life? Low?
Western Countries tend to have higher quality of life because of more jobs, opportunities, environment. Countries that attract wars, poverty, and natural disasters have low quality of life
Why is quality of life apart of social studies 9?
Because the government believes that they play a huge role in providing quality of life for their citizens. many right of centers believe that qol should be left to the individuals and provide a guaranteed living program to reduce poverty.
Standard of Living
Standard of living measures how well off citizens are. It includes minimum wage, poverty, wages, homelessness, etc..
Democratic, Legal, Equality Rights and Freedoms
Measures how free, safe, and equal individuals are in a society and how they protect minority groups from the majority groups.
Jobs and Working conditions
These are the quality of jobs available, the working conditions in the country, strength of unions, collective bargaining rights, minimum wage, presence of child labour or forced labour
Health and Safety
How healthy and safe your society is.
Education
Is education free? Who can be educated? What does education provide? How affordable?
Environment
- Polluted air
- Water unhealthy
How does qol connect with consumerism?
Consumerism is the idea of buying things to make you feel better which will impact the economy. In consumerism, the cost of goods must be kept as low as possible to keep people buying. To keep things low, environment, health, and jobs are all affected. How we see things can be molded by consumerism

Choices that you make can affect the environment. People pay more to buy recycled goods. Consumers want to help the environment.

Consumers check how safe and healthy a product is. Health and Safety is regulated by government. Often consumers want for health and safety might drive companies to develop healthier or safer options.
