what was jenness theory ( 1932)
he studied conformity, his experiment included a glass bottle filled with beans. he asked participants to individually estimate how many beans in the jar, he then asked them to provide a group estimate through discussion, they where then individually aaked again and most had altered their answers to he closer to the groups estimate through discussion
what are the three different types of conformity
compliance, internalisation, identification
what is compliance
they accept influence so they get accepted into a certain group, it’s only temporary as you only act this way to be included
what is internalisation
they change their views in public to fit in but they aslo agree with it personally
what is identification
when a person changes their views in a social situation but their private opinion doesn’t have to change
strengths of the social approach

unethical, reductionism fails to understand the role of individual differences within a social setting
