- Authority: willingly accepting requests of authorities.
Compliance definition.
Superficial, public and transitory change in behavior and expressed attitudes in response to requests, coercion or group pressure.
Factors influencing obedience.
- Commitment to course of action.
- Immediacy of the victim: visibility of the consequences.
- Immediacy of authority: presence of authoritative fig.

Conformity definition.
Deep-seated, private and enduring change in behaviour and attitudes due to group pressure.
Dual-process dependency model.
A general model of social influence in which two separate processes operate – dependency on others for social approval and for information about reality.
Kelly’s reference/membership groups.
Reference group: a group that is psychologically significant for our behavior and attitudes - positive/negative.
Membership groups: a group to which we belong by some objective external criterion.
