Social Learning Flashcards
What is modelling?
when a person copies the behaviour or attitude demonstrated by another person
what is vicarious conditioning?
when a person is more likely to engage in a particular behaviour as a witness positive or negative consequences.
differentiate between negative and positive punishers and reinforcers
positive: more likely to engage because you see a reward
negative: less likely to engage because you see a punishment
reinforcement: increase behaviour
punishment: decrease behaviour
what is observational learning?
What are the 5 steps of Observation learning?
Attention Retention Reproduction Motivation and Reinforcement.

Explain step 1 Attention:
- cognitive aspects of observational learning
- Influenced by perception, cognitive ability, arousal level (interest in the task), how much they like the person or behavior be modelled.
Explain step 2 Retention:
retention:
- Recognise and remember the behavior
Explain Step 3 Reproduction:
reproduction:
- The person is not able to perform the behaviour modelled exactly yet- Physical and intellectual ability to conduct a mental representation into actions
Explain Step 4 Motivation:
The persons want to imitate the behaviour where the modelling the behaviour has a desirable consequence (reinforcement) for producing it.
