Why did the smaller states object the virginia plan?
The smaller states would have less say in government than larger states.
What did the 3/5 compromise say?
It said that 3/5ths of slave population would be counted for determining direct taxation and representation in the house of representatives.
What did the federalists want?
Federalists battled for adoption of the Constitution.
What are some ways the legislative branch can check the powers of the president?
Impeach and remove the president from office if the president has committed crimes of treason high crimes or misdemeanors.
What does a bill of rights guarantee American citizens?
Civil rights and liberties to the individual like freedom of speech press and religion.
How does the system of checks and balances work?
It provides each branch of government with individual powers to check the other branches and prevent any other branch from becoming too powerful.
Who settles disputes between a state and the federal government?
The Supreme Court.

What were the arguments against ratification of the constitution?
Anti-federalists feared that the new national government would be too powerful and thus threaten individual liberties, given the absence of a bill of rights.
