Understands how different situations affect our feelings and perceived stress scale

Measures something that has had a changing effect on you rather than something persistent
How can high social support impact stress
Enhance resilience to stress, protect against developing trauma, decrease consequences of trauma disorders. Is also linked to reducing mortality blood pressure and increasing immune function
What is the direct effects hypothesis
States whether we are experiencing stress or not having social support ill always benefit us
What is the buffering hypothesis
Says that social support only helps us when we are stressed
What are the possible -ve influences of social support?
Poor relationship quality, -ve interactions with others, poorly matched support
What is the social cure
Suggests that group memberships can have +ve implications on health as it is socially meaningful to you
What is social prescribing
Aims to enhance social connections and health of chronic conditions made worse through loneliness
