Primary socialisation
Takes place when a child learns the values,beliefs and attitudes of their culture through parents and family.
Secondary socialisation
Takes place when a child learns the values,beliefs,and attitudes of their culture through those outside of the family.
Culture
All the ways of life including arts,beliefs and institutions of a population that are passed down from generation to generation.
Agents of socialisation
A combination of social groups and social institutions that provide the first experiences of socialisation.
Agents of socialisation examples:
Family,religion,peer groups,economic systems,legal systems,penal systems,language ,media
Peer groups
A group of people of approximately the same age,status and interests.
Status
The position of a person occupies in a particular setting.
Role model
A person whose behaviour,example,or success is or can be emulated by others,especially by younger people.
Social roles
Socially defined pattern of behaviour that is expected of persons who occupy a certain social position or belong to a particular social category.
Nurture
The environmental influences that contribute to the development of an individual.Things we learn from the surrounding environment.
Norms
The perceived informal , mostly unwritten,rules that define acceptable and appropriate actions.
Identity
The qualities,beliefs,personality traits,appearence ,and/or expressions that characterize a person or group.
Society
A group of people who have common interests and a distinctive culture.
Imitation
The way in which an individual copies the behaviour of a role model.
Sanctions
Any reaction from others to the behaviour of an individual or group.They can be positive (praise) or negative (Punishments).
